Ronda Spain Travel

La Fuente Hotel in Ronda

La Fuente Hotel in Ronda

Southern Spain offers many luxury hotels, but none compare in my experiences to Hotel La Fuente in Ronda. It was the fairy tale white village of Ronda, perched high atop the El Tajo gorge, that drew us to this part of Andalucia, but it was the Hotel La Fuente that captured our hearts and will take us back. We hardly left this Ronda hotel, a former olive oil mill, to visit the village, preferring instead to relax by the pool, stroll down the country lanes and savor the views.

Country Hotel Like Home

As they describe on their website, La Fuente is truly like spending the weekend at your friends’ country home. My daughters ran back and forth from the pool to the library refrigerator for ice cream bars. My husband enjoyed the “help yourself” style bar to pour a pre-dinner scotch, and I loved the bookshelves full of books to share. “Leave one, take one” was the casual philosophy.

We were spoiled with the double suite, number 7. Its two bedrooms, large sitting room with fireplace and private terraces were more than we had reserved. I have discovered that traveling off season and with children has its perks. Upgrades for our family have happened many times when hotels find their suites empty and a family who would appreciate more space. The breezes and spectacular views of the Ronda countryside were indeed fit for a princess.

Breakfast was delivered to our suite each morning. The staff was thoughtful and flexible in regards to dinner, asking if our daughters wanted something simple or perhaps early in our room, allowing us adults to linger and enjoy the late Spanish dinners. My husband and I relished the fresh and creative meals on the terrace each evening, the bullfrogs serenading us with magical sounds. Don’t miss Hotel La Fuenta, Spain travel at its best.

When to Travel Spain and Ronda

Time your visit for early September for the famous Feria Goyesca bullfight at Ronda’s famous plaza toros or early June for the Virgen de la Cabeza pilgrimage. These annual ferias are ideal opportunities to see traditional rural Spanish life in Ronda. Or consider the off-season specials that La Fuente offers in November and December.

La Fuente is a beautiful ten minute drive to the town of Ronda and 38 miles (62 km) north of Marbella and the Costa del Sol. Double rooms are 148 euros plus 7% tax. Two night minimum. Breakfast included. +34 952 11 43 55 or see Hotel La Fuente’s website for details, http://www.hotellafuente.com/.
