Dee –

I’m glad to have found your website. My wife and I are considering moving to Spain for 4-6 months with our two young kids so they can experience the culture. They are already learning Spanish and we want them to experience more. I was also looking at the regions you had posted and the only concern I had was whether they would hear enough Spanish or is it primarily Catalan/Valenciano that is spoken in Javea and nearby areas. Thanks.

Hola Jon,

In hindsight, I would say the regions we considered spoke too much English! In Javea, both Valenciano and Spanish are spoken, and in the public schools, classes are taught in Valenciano. I don’t believe this is the case in the public schools in Valencia though; I think it depends upon each town. Had it to do over, we would have considered towns inland and north, Salamanca, Valladolid, Leon, Burgos, Cordoba to hear and practice Spanish. Our biggest disappointment was in which how little Spanish we were immersed. Good luck!

Hello Dee,
I absolutely love your article. It is beautifully and factually written. A lot of fantastic and honest information. Thank you. We live in Australia – my husband, 2 children and I. I am from Germany originally. To be closer to Germany without having to give up the “holiday” lifestyle we are thinking of moving to Spain for 6 months of the year and then live 6 months in Germany (during summer). It would be interesting to hear what your life in Javea is like and whether you are intending to stay or move back? Thank you and sunny greeting from Perth, Western Australia.
